After graduating as a geologist Andrew Woollett joined RTZ in Saudi Arabia and then worked in Greenland for the EU. Upon completion of an MSc in Mineral Exploration at the Royal School of Mines in 1981 he joined Cluff Resources and worked in the UK and Eire before being transferred to Zimbabwe. He spent 1984 setting up and running Cluff Resources' oil exploration office in Shanghai before returning to London as exploration manager, minerals. He left Cluff Resources in 1987 in order to develop his own business interests, and served as a non-executive director with Ivernia West from 1988 to 1991, during which time the company discovered Listieen, one of the largest zinc deposits in Europe. In 1989 he set up Reunion Mining PLC, a company devoted exclusively to mineral exploration and mining in Africa. Over the next ten years, as Executive Chairman of Reunion, he travelled extensively in Africa visiting over twenty countries. The company's shares were listed in Luxembourg in 1994 and obtained a full London Stock Exchange listing in 1995. In May 1999 he left Reunion following Anglo American plc's successful bid for the company. Andrew Woollett was a non-executive director of ZincOx but on leaving Reunion he accepted the position of Managing Director of the Company, taking the position of Chairman at the end of 2005. |
